U.Va. awareness campaign targets sexual misconduct

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (AP) — A new public awareness campaign at the University of Virginia aims to prevent sexual misconduct by showing bystanders how to recognize potentially dangerous situations and offer help.

The university launched the “Hoos Got Your Back” campaign on Friday. The campaign involves students, faculty, staff, merchants and other members of the U.Va. community.

The university says in a news release that about a dozen merchants have agreed to participate so far.

The campaign includes videos and educational and promotional materials. A website is being developed to provide resources for student groups and others, along with links to national efforts such as the White House Task Force to Protect Students From Sexual Assault.
