Funeral scheduled for Virginia tornado victim

JERSEY CITY, N.J. (AP) — Services are scheduled in New Jersey this week for the third victim of a Virginia tornado.

Greenville Memorial Home in Jersey City says on its website that a funeral Mass is set for Thursday morning for 13-year-old Lheandrew Lloyd Balatbat at Our Lady of Mercy Church in Jersey City.

The website says he died Saturday at Children’s Hospital of the King’s Daughters in Norfolk, Virginia, from injuries sustained in the July 24 tornado.

His parents, Lord Balatbat and Lolabeth Ortega of Jersey City, were killed when a tree fell on their tent at the Cherrystone Family Camping and RV Resort along Virginia’s Eastern Shore. Their son was in a tent next to them.

More than three dozen others were injured in the tornado.
