NORFOLK, Va. (AP) — A Navy Reserve officer will have to pay a $1,500 fine for landing his private plane at Naval Station Norfolk.
The Virginian-Pilot reports (http://bit.ly/1kqHXQM ) Capt. Daniel Cross was found guilty of violating defense property security regulations in federal court.
Cross was cleared of charges of trespassing and entering U.S. property under false pretenses.
The newspaper reports that Cross was flying his single-engine plane from George to Norfolk on May 16. Cross had planned to land at Norfolk International Airport, but changed his course at the last minute because of a severe rainstorm.
An air traffic controller at the base said Cross was cleared to land only because he had indicated over the radio he had required authorization. After landing, security and base officials confirmed he didn’t have authorization.
