BRISTOL, Va. (AP) — A BVU Authority official says an investigation couldn’t identify the source of a grease spill that caused a sewer overflow into a creek.
The April spill into Little Creek killed about 3,000 fish.
The investigation by the authority’s manager of water and wastewater, Phillip King, determined that the spill originated in the vicinity of Shearer’s Food. The Bristol Herald Courier (http://bit.ly/1rb5DdH ) says King told state regulators in a letter that several other food processing plants were located at the site prior to Shearer’s arrival.
King’s letter says the previous plants could have contributed to the grease.
King told the authority on Monday that Shearer’s has never exceeded its permitted limits for oil and grease.
The state agency issued a notice of violation to the authority after the spill.
