Navy: Stabbing suspect to remain confined in Va.

NORFOLK, Va. (AP) — The Navy says a sailor suspected of repeatedly stabbing another in a barracks near a naval hospital will remain in confinement.

Petty Officer 3rd Class Wilbur Harwell appeared at an initial review hearing on Friday. He remains at the Naval Consolidated Brig in Chesapeake pending charges.

The Navy says Harwell Petty Officer 2nd Class Justin Powell near Naval Medical Center Portsmouth last Friday. The installation was locked down minutes after authorities were made aware of the stabbing.

The Naval Criminal Investigative Service has not completed its investigation of the incident and Harwell has not yet been charged.

Harwell is being held in temporary administrative segregation, which the Navy says is standard operating procedure for new detainees.
