Man dies after being shot by Norfolk police

NORFOLK, Va. (AP) — Norfolk police say a man died after being shot by an officer who was trying to serve an emergency custody order.

Police spokesman Daniel Hudson tells media outlets that the incident occurred Wednesday afternoon at Calvary Towers, an assisted living facility. He says the man who was the subject of the custody order pulled a knife on the officer, who shot the man. The injured man was taken to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital, where he died. The officer was not hurt.

Hudson identified the man as 72-year-old Lawrence H. Faine.
