Virginia man killed in 1-car crash in New York

OSWEGO, N.Y. (AP) — State police say a Virginia man has died and a New York man is hospitalized after their car crashed off a rural upstate road.

Troopers say 28-year-old Dennis Malone of Hampton, Virginia was driving at a high rate of speed around 8:10 p.m. Sunday when he lost control and left the road in the town of Oswego, 35 miles north of Syracuse.

The car traveled through a dirt field before hitting a tree line.

Malone was pronounced dead at the scene. His passenger, 58-year-old David Cole of nearby Hannibal, was ejected from the car and suffered internal injuries. He’s being treated at Upstate University Medical Center in Syracuse.

Troopers say neither man was wearing a seat belt.
