Man arrested at Va. airport, knives found in bag

ROANOKE, Va. (AP) — A man is facing charges after security officials at Roanoke-Blacksburg Regional Airport found knives in his carry-on bag.

Airport spokeswoman Amanda DeHaven says Transportation Security Administration screeners found the weapons Wednesday while conducting additional screening of the man and his baggage.

DeHaven tells The Roanoke Times (http://bit.ly/1jyrCSP ) that the additional screening was prompted by an expired driver’s license that the man showed at a boarding checkpoint.

DeHaven says an X-ray search found multiple bladed weapons, including a straight-edge razor and a throwing knife, in the bag.

Roanoke police spokesman Scott Leamon says airport officers also found a stun gun in the man’s possession.

Airport police charged 40-year-old Michael Shane Burns with carrying prohibited items. Burns also was charged by Roanoke police with simple assault and resisting arrest.
