1 of Richmond Metro Zoo’s cheetah cubs dies

RICHMOND, Va. (AP) — One of five cheetah cubs at the Richmond Metro Zoo has died.

Owner Jim Andelin says zoo staff found Hanna dead in her overnight shelter on Sunday morning.

Andelin says in a statement to media outlets that the 7-month-old cub was playing and acting normally on Saturday. He says there wasn’t any evidence of trauma or rough play from Hanna’s litter mates.

The zoo is awaiting results of lab tests on tissue and other samples.

The cubs were born at the zoo on Oct. 6, 2013. They went on public display in April.
