Virginia daycare director charged with abuse

WASHINGTON — A daycare worker is charged with abuse after an anonymous tip and investigation revealed she assaulted two children, Prince William County police say.

Arousha Shahin, 39, the daycare’s director, is charged with two counts of contributing to the delinquency of a minor and two counts of assault and battery.

On Feb. 26, detectives began investigating abuse allegations after receiving an anonymous tip about S.M.I.L.E. Day Care at 7171 New Market Court in Manassas.

The tipster pointed to Shahin, of Haymarket, Va., as the abuser.

According to police, the investigation showed that in February of 2014, Arousha Shahin assaulted two children, a 6-year-old boy and a 5-year-old girl, while they were both in her care.

“There’s a lot of trust put into someone who takes care of your kids so anytime these allegations come forward, we want to investigate it promptly and swiftly but we also want to make sure these are correct allegations which in this case they were,” Prince William County Police Officer Jonathan Perok tells WTOP.

Shahin was arrested on March 21. She is being held on $10,000 bond.
