2 killed in Prince William County car crash

WASHINGTON — Prince William County police officers are investigating a fatal car accident that occurred in the area of Dumfries Road and Minnieville Road on Sunday morning.

According to police, the driver of a Honda Civic traveled southbound along Dumfries Road and made a left turn on a red light at the intersection with Minnieville Road. In doing so, the driver collided with a 2003 GMC Envoy that traveled northbound along Dumfries. The driver of the Envoy had the green light.

The Honda Civic caught fire on impact. The front seat passenger – Gisela Zuniga, 35, of Woodbridge – was trapped inside the car and unable to escape until firefighters arrived.

The rear seat passenger – Francisa Knauf, 60, of Triangle – was pronounced dead at the scene. The Civic driver and Zuniga were flown to a local hospital. Zuniga died; the Civic driver remains in critical condition.

The driver and passenger in the Envoy were taken to the hospital and later released.
