Police ask for cold clues in brutal beating of elderly man

WASHINGTON – It was a rare, violent crime in the heart of a small town and two years later to the date, police are still searching for clues.

There was a knock on the door of a home on Macoy Avenue in Culpeper, Va., at 9 p.m. on Oct. 21, 2011. Two men then pushed their way into the house of an 86-year-old man who they severely beat. They rummaged through his home and robbed him. Two years later, there are still no suspects

Culpeper police spokesman Wally Bunker says the now 88-year-old man is still recovering from his injuries. Police believe someone in the town knows something about this case.

The reward has been increased to $5,000 to encourage someone to come forward with any information as police have very little descriptions to go on about the home invaders.

It’s the third time police have tried a public appeal to help lead to an arrest and conviction for the kind of crime that is very rare in small towns. Police say they are hoping the case is not stone cold.
