VRE drops plans to add WiFi to trains

WASHINGTON – Virginia Railway Express is dropping its priority to bring wireless Internet to its trains.

VRE originally planned to roll out limited WiFi on trains this spring. But the date got pushed back, and now it’s unclear if the trains will ever have it.

In an online chat this week on VRE’s website, Dale Zehner, the service’s CEO, said the priority for WiFi is dropping.

“During our last survey, most riders said they wouldn’t use it if it wasn’t free. Also, I am not convinced that we can provide uninterrupted service at this time,” he said.
