Nadia Comaneci donates gymnastics bib to museum

LAUSANNE, Switzerland (AP) — It’s a perfect choice for the Olympic Museum — as in a perfect 10.0.

Gymnastics great Nadia Comaneci has donated the numbered bib she wore at the 1976 Montreal Games to the museum. The Romanian-born Comaneci won three gold medals in Montreal and became the first female gymnast to earn a score of 10.0.

Appearing at the museum on Tuesday, she said: “There is no better place to display my bib which was with me in Montreal.”

IOC President Thomas Bach said “the Montreal Games were your games, you made your mark on them forever.”

Comaneci noted the symbolism of her bib number 73 — 7, as in the number of perfect 10s she obtained in Montreal; 3, the number of gold medals she won; and 7 plus 3 equals 10.
