Old Ebbitt Grill among top-grossing independent restaurants

D.C.’s Old Ebbitt Grill ranks No. 3 on a list of top-grossing restaurants.

Restaurant Business Magazine’s annual list says Old Ebbitt had $26.7 million in sales in 2013. The 500-seat restaurant sold 600,000 meals last year, Restaurant Business estimates.

While Old Ebbitt is among D.C.’s oldest restaurants, circa 1856, one of the District’s newest restaurants also ranks high nationally. The Hamilton, at $17.9 million, comes in at No. 15 for annual sales.

Other Washington restaurants on the list of top independents for sales are Sequoia, at No. 34 with $15 million in annual sales; Tower Oaks Lodge in Rockville, at No. 71 with $11.8 million in annual sales; Jackson’s Mighty Fine Food & Lucky Lounge in Reston, at No. 82 with $11.2 million in sales; Costal Flats in Fairfax, at No. 94 with $10.6 million in sales; Willow Creek Farm in Broadlands, at No. 98 with $10.2 million; and Sweetwater Tavern in Falls Church, at No. 100 with $9.9 million.

Topping the Restaurant Business list for the 100 top independent restaurants is Tao Asian Bistro in Las Vegas, with $64.6 million in sales last year. Joe’s Stone Crab in Miami ranked No. 2, at $35.3 million.
