‘South Park’ season premiere focuses on Redskins name controversy

WASHINGTON — The Washington Redskins’ Thursday night game against the New York Giants may not be the only concern for owner Dan Snyder.

On Wednesday night, the popular Comedy Central show, “South Park” kicked off its 18th season and took aim at the Redskins in the process. The episode included jabs at the ‘Skins and Snyder for defending the team’s name.

In the episode, Eric Cartman decides to name a start-up company “The Washington Redskins,” which infuriates the cartoon-style Snyder. Cartman argues that the name and logo are fair game.

The episode makes light of a U.S. Patent and Trademark Office decision earlier this year that stripped the team of its trademark protection.

The episode’s promo caught fans’ attention when it aired during Sunday’s game against the Eagles.
