Woman on moped dies after being hit by truck in D.C.

WASHINGTON — A woman riding a moped has died after being struck by a truck on Connecticut Avenue in the District, according to D.C. police.

D.C. Fire & EMS spokesman Tim Wilson says that the accident happened directly in front of Engine Company 31 between Ellicot Street and Nebraska Avenue around 8:30 Friday morning.

“A witness came in and alerted the members that were inside. Immediately, the rest of the members of the fire house … ran out and assessed the situation and provided some medical care to the patient,” Wilson says.

“They self-dispatched themselves at 8:26 a.m. If I had to go back and look at the logs, the dispatch-to-response time would probably be seconds.”

Police say the accident is still under investigation but the driver of the truck remained on the scene.
