WASHINGTON — Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of a 3-year-old boy in Southeast.

The child was found when police and rescuers were called to an apartment in the 2500 block of Pomeroy Road SE around 11 a.m. Tuesday.

Police confirm the boy’s identity as 3-year-old Xavier Lyles.

The child’s grandparents tell ABC7 they were with the boy all weekend, and that he was fine when they brought him back home on Monday.

Police have yet to characterize the death, ABC7 reports, but the scene was troubling enough to some fire and EMS workers that counselors were brought in.
