JetBlue begins new DCA flights next week

JetBlue Airways, one of several airlines adding new flights at Reagan National airport as part of slot re-allocation after the US Airways merger with American Airlines, will add the first six of 12 new flights beginning June 19.

JetBlue (NASDAQ: JBLU) will start twice-daily service to both Charleston, South Carolina, and Hartford, Connecticut, next Thursday, as well as once-daily flights to Nassau, Bahamas.

It will add a second daily flight from National to Tampa, Florida, starting July 2, and says it will announce three more new destinations soon.

Additional service will eventually bring JetBlue’s Reagan National flights to 30 a day.

The slot divestitures by American (NYSE: AAL) and US Airways will also benefit Virgin America, which won another four daily flights at National. Southwest Airlines (NYSE: LUV) gains the most, winning slots that will more than double its National Airport service to 44 daily flights and 14 cities.
