LivingSocial Inc. has apologized for a “seven sins” themed Halloween party that featured a “greed room” adorned with dreidels and gold coins.
The event, hosted last Saturday at LivingSocial’s 918 F St. NW space in downtown D.C., charged $59 a head for the “six-floor extravaganza” complete with novelty cocktails, a silent disco and a room designated for each of the cardinal sins. Greed was billed as a “shimmering room full of silver and gold” in which “we’ll get greedy challenging friends to a plethora of games, all while sipping on a Midas Touch cocktail.”
Also dreidels, according to a report by Washington Jewish Week, which quotes an anonymous attendee offended by the display.
“We do not condone prejudice, nor do we tolerate inappropriate or hurtful behavior of any sort,” LivingSocial spokeswoman Sara Parker wrote in an emailed statement Wednesday afternoon. “What happened at the event does not reflect who we are as a company and we are deeply apologetic.”
Added Parker: “We will offer a full refund to anyone who attended the event. Customers who attended the event and wish to be refunded can call our customer service department directly and they will be reimbursed immediately.”
The deal’s Web page indicates that 643 people bought tickets for the event.
