Radio personality Sheila Stewart killed in car crash

WASHINGTON – Well-known D.C. radio veteran Sheila Stewart died in a car crash in Atlanta Thursday morning.

WOL/News Talk 1450’s website posted this message:

“It is with a heavy heart we here at Radio One report that our News and Public Affairs Director Sheila Stewart unexpectedly passed away this morning.”

Chris Wegmann, regional vice president and general manager of Radio One, confirmed Stewart’s death to NBC Washington. He said Stewart was involved in an accident on the way to work Thursday.

At the time of her death, Stewart was working from Atlanta.

Stewart’s award-winning career spanned more than 20 years.

Stewart most recently had worked as the News and Community Affairs Director for a cluster of Radio One stations in the D.C. area.

Radio One’s D.C. affiliates include 93.3 WKYS, Praise 104.1, News Talk 1450, Majic 102.3 FM and Spirit 1340.

Stewart, who was a mother, was known for devoting her time to young people and charitable causes, including the Susan Komen Race For The Cure and the United Negro College Fund, according to Majic 102.3 FM’s website.
