WASHINGTON – A group of comedians from the D.C. area have been traveling all over the District this week, looking for a laugh.
You can’t miss the group’s showy red truck. It has a very large screen mounted on top, and on Friday afternoon it was parked along 7th Street.
The event is called #ShareALaugh, and it sponsored by Capital One.
“We’ve seen about several hundred people, coming sharing laughs with us,” says Carlisle Campbell with Capital One.
“Part of our partnership is all about bringing art into the community,” Cambpbell says.
Comedian Pete Bladel of Ashburn, Va., was brought on to get a chuckle from those passing by.
“We have a couple stock jokes ready to go,” he says. “If those don’t work we have to do a little bit of crowd work.”
Comedian Sara Armour says the stock joke seemed to get most people.
“Two peanuts walking down the street, one was a-salted,” Armour says to Tara Jackson of D.C.
The joke got a loud laugh out of Jackson, and moments later her picture was zapped from an iPad to the truck’s top screen.
The traveling comedy show is part of an event this weekend, where the Kennedy Center will honor Carol Burnette with the Mark Twain Prize for American Humor.
Participants are urged to share the shots of themselves online using #sharealaugh. Down the road, a best picture will be chosen, and that person will win tickets to next year’s Mark Twain Prize Ceremony.
Check out the traveling show on Saturday at Eastern Market Station on D Street, SE. The truck will be between 7th and 8th Streets.
