ABC 7 Meteorologist Bob Ryan retiring

WASHINGTON – Longtime Washington meteorologist Bob Ryan is retiring from WJLA ABC 7.

Ryan has been forecasting the weather at ABC 7 for three years. Before then he was the head meteorologist at WRC NBC 4 in Washington. His 40-year career began in Cambridge, Mass.

In an article on it’s website, ABC 7 reports Ryan is not sure of his retirement date.

“I don’t see myself stepping back completely and just watching the sunset,” Ryan says in the article.

ABC 7 News Director Bill Lord released this statement:

“Bob has done a brilliant job for us over the past three years making great contributions to the success of our outstanding 11pm newscast. He has also led the charge on our national award-winning website which derives about a quarter of its page views from the weather pages Bob helped design and populate. We have not yet worked out all the details of Bob’s departure but we will keep everyone in the loop as things develop.”

ABC plans to celebrate Ryan’s career on the 11 p.m. newscast Wednesday, May 8.
