WASHINGTON – A pregnant woman’s baby died after the mother was stabbed in her Southeast D.C. home early Thursday.

It happened at around 2:30 a.m. in the 4200 block of 9th Street, SE, in the Washington Highlands neighborhood.

The male infant was delivered at the hospital and later pronounced dead. An autopsy will be performed on the infant, named Kuron Rashad Hunt.

The woman, who police have not identified, was eight months pregnant. She is expected to survive.

There is no description of the attacker. Police say the woman was at home when police say a man entered. There was no apparent sign of forced entry.

In a press release, police did not specify if anything was taken from the home.

Cynthia Spenard, a neighbor who says she was good friends with the victim, says the mother lived at the apartment with her other children and described her as a good woman.

Anyone with information is asked to call police at (202) 727-9099. D.C. police are offering a reward of up to $1,000 to anyone who provides information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for the assault.
