WASHINGTON – Heads up for those of you who frequently travel Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue between the Suitland Parkway and the Anacostia historic district: There’s a new long term roadwork project starting up this week, and it will take approximately four months to complete.

DDOT says the project will include new crosswalks, wheelchair ramps, sidewalks and curbs. The roadway surface also will be repaved.

This work will take place weekdays between the hours of 7 a.m. and 7 p.m., so keep that in mind if you travel through this area during rush hour. Here is the summary:

  • Howard Road SE between Howard Road and Good Hope Road — a minimum of one lane will remain open in both directions during work hours
  • Work will take place Monday through Friday between the hours of 7 a.m. and 7 p.m.
  • Curbside parking restrictions will apply throughout the project area. “No Parking” notices will be posted 72 hours in advance.
