Robo-maid invented in South Korea

January 25, 2010 - 5:35am
SOUTH KOREA - Remember Rosie the robot housekeeper from the Jetsons? Now it's reality. South Korean scientists have come up with a working robot that does housework.

The walking robot maid has a rotating head containing a three-dimensional sensor so it can figure out what work you need it to do. It can pick up your house, dust, dump clothes into the washer and heat meals in the microwave.

It has a human-like body over 4 feet tall, weighs 121 pounds and can even recognize people. The head, arms, legs all rotate and the robot has six fingers to help pick up sandwiches, cups, or anything else it senses as objects.

See the robot in action.

Unfortunately it's going to be a while before it's available commercially.
