You don't have to travel to distant lands to get a stomach bug on vacation. It can happen anywhere, on a cruise or a national park trip.
But this is not the flu, which is caused by an airborne virus. Instead, the norovirus is usually spread by hand to hand contact, or by eating food handled by someone who is already infected.
A nasty intestinal virus that has been going around can be prevented. All that's needed is soap and water and some elbow grease.
Roughly 100 students and staff were first sent home on Friday from the Fairfax County public school after the spread of what experts believe could be Norovirus. Symptoms of the virus include nausea, vomiting and diarrhea.
The stomach virus spread in the last 24 hours, though similarities have not been established among the victims.
