The closures are needed for work on the Kenilworth Avenue overpass above the Beltway.
State Sen. John Watkins (R-Powhatan) proposed a plan that would increase Virginia's gas tax from 17.5 cents a gallon to 31.5 cents a gallon. The 14-cent increase would eliminate the need to add more toll roads.
Wilson Bridge construction will close roads during the day and overnight this week.
New Hampshire Avenue will become a two-way street and new sidewalks will be installed between Dupont Circle and Washington Circle.
