The beach at Sandy Point State Park in Annapolis was evacuated Monday as a precaution after a park ranger thought he saw a bull shark in the water.
Two 8-foot long bull sharks weighing about 220 pounds each were found in fishermen's nets not far from Point Lookout State Park in St. Mary's County.
Unlike the nearby ocean coasts, the Chesapeake Bay is not a hotbed for shark sport fishing, largely due to the low numbers of sharks that can exist in the water. Bull sharks are among the only species that can withstand salinity levels that low.
