Nats Strike Outs have been very very good to Children's Inn at NIH a residential "place like home" for seriously ill children and their families! The Washington Area Toyota Dealers Ks for Kids program which pledged $37 to The Inn for every National's strikeout this season. Listen below to find out how well that work out!!
There was some very special tennis played at Georgetown Prep Tennis Club the other night. It was to raise money for the Yellow Ribbon Fund. It was called "Raising a Racquet for the Troops" The Yellow Ribbon fund assists injured service members and their families as they recuperate at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center and Fort Belvoir Community Hospital.
Well, that WAS the idea behind W Curtis Draper's "13th Annual Little Puff" an intimate gathering of cigar lovers (limited to 300 people). Proceeds from ticket sales and the auction benefit three local academic scholarships (The Erik Kristensen Memorial Scholarship in honor of a Navy SEAL killed in action; The Pat Krimm Scholarship & The Anne Berman Memorial Scholarship). As well as money for Breast Cancer programs at Sibly Hospital.
Breast Cancer Awareness Month. To give it a good start Susan G. Komen for the Cure held it's 3rd annual "Honoring The Promise Gala" in the Eisenhower Theatre of the Kennedy Center. Money raised will continue to support efforts in cutting-edge medical research and community health, including a major project in Southeast D.C. in Wards 7 and 8, communities with the highest breast cancer mortality rates in the nation.
