Maryland's own 'Craigslist attacker' sentenced
Edgar D. Romero, 26, of Bladensburg, contacted numerous women, including the four he attacked, between December 2008 and February 2009 through Craigslist ads for erotic services. According to prosecutors, he and an accomplice met the four victims at a D.C. hotel.

Hexagon's show this year: "I Get No Kick from Campaign!" will be at the Montgomery College Cultural Arts Center in Silver Spring. March 9-24th. Poll: Jobs, public safety beat traffic for top area priorities
Twenty-seven percent of those questioned in D.C., Maryland and Virginia list living in a safe community with low crime as the top issue, while 20 percent thought jobs and the ecomomy were most important.
Ten years of education reform celebrated
Several hundred Washingtonians gathered at the Italian Embassy for a gala to celebrate "10 years of education, opportunity, dedication, and success" at the Washington Jesuit Academy. Which educates academically talented adolescent 6 through 8th grade boys from low-income families regardless of religious denomination and "provides for them a disciplined, rigorous learning environment."
Happy 100th Girl Scouts
100 years is worth kicking up a storm, stomping your feet and having a day of fun competition. That's exactly what the Girl Scout Council of the Nation's Capital did this past Saturday at Trinity Washington University in northeast with the annual "Girl Scout DC Step Showcase"

Black history on the Wall
In observance of Black History Month, the Vietnam Memorial Fund (VVMF) has been highlighting the great contributions African American Servicemen and Women made to the Vietnam War. Including a video featuring Brigadier General George Price, USA (Ret.), telling the story of Captain Riley Pitts, the first African American officer to receive the Medal of Honor.

Even though the nominations for the Helen Hayes Awards have just been announced there is already a DC Theatre company celebrating a win! TheatreWashington Chairman Victor Shargai announced the recipient of the John Aniello Award for Outstanding Emerging Theatre Company.

The Capital City Diner, housed in a silver diner car on Bladensburg Road in Northeast, closed this January, citing rising costs, a declining economy and competition from the new Denny's a few blocks away.

Not at all! That's part of what Commedia dell Media is about. Journalists doing stand-up to put the "fun" back into fundraising. Raising money and awareness about Writopia Lab a non-profit organization that holds after-school, weekend, and summer creative writing workshops for kids ages 8 to 18. And Reach Incorporated which hires and trains older students to tutor younger students.
