Help our heroes

Among those of us still without power are thousands of lower ranking members of the military (as in the lowest paid). Because many have lost a lot of food to the power outage and heat Operation Homefront DC Metro Chapter stands ready to provide grocery gift cards and commissary food vouchers to any active duty military family, E6 and below to replace food lost due to power outages and high heat. In order to do this Operation Homefront needs our help. As an example A donation of $100 will replace a week's worth a groceries for a family of four. How to avoid the mall but enjoy fireworks on the 4th

One way is to head to The University of Maryland and the City of College Park. Where they are working together to once again break out the red, white and blue for a fabulous Independence Day celebration. Concessions open at 5pm. A free concert and fireworks spectacular are on tap for Wednesday, July 4 beginning at 7pm at the University of Maryland in Lot 1 adjacent to Campus Drive off Adelphi Road. With great rock n roll and fun from The Fabulous Hubcaps. Fireworks start at dusk - about 9pm with a 30 to 40 minute program. In case of rain, the fireworks show will be on Thursday, July 5th.

They are local female radio/TV news anchors who several years ago created Newsbabes Bash for Breast Cancer. Their 4th annual bash was held at the Historic Howard Theatre to help the the GW Mammovan provide free screenings to women in need.
