Perhaps sensing that we needed a reminder that it really is summer here in Washington, Mother Nature is sending in the kind of heat and muggy air we associate with the season and haven't had really had this year! A Bermuda High - a weather player more common in July than September - is currently sending very humid air and warm temperatures into the Mid-Atlantic. Dew points in the low 70s and daytime highs near 90 will make for uncomfortable days through early next week. With heat indices in the mid to upper 90s, it will definitely feel like there is some calendar confusion going on. The warmest days since July are possible from today through Tuesday. Still, while September's average high starts at 84 on the 1st and ends at 74 on the 30th, temperatures in the 90s are not exceptional. It is the dearth of 90 degree days this summer that makes this the summer surge so notable: there have been just two 90 degree days at Reagan National this August and none at BWI Marshall Airport. Keep an eye to the sky this afternoon for the possibility of thunderstorms, some of which could contain heavy downpours. The threat of more showers extends into the overnight hours and again tomorrow, if to a lesser degree. Enjoy the rest of your weekend and the opportunity to cool off in the soon-to-close swimming pools!
