This Labor Day weekend offers lots of fun but how about something Free and family oriented?? The National Symphony Orchestra, led by Principal Pops Conductor Steven Reineke, presents its annual, free Labor Day Weekend Concert on the West Lawn of the U.S. Capitol on Sunday. This year the program will include music that highlights the American landscape, from Stephen Flaherty's American River Suite to the little town of Mudville in Casey at the Bat, narrated by Michael John Casey. Concluding the concert will be a number of selections from the Great American Songbook performed by composer, pianist, and singer Tony DeSare. Sunday, September 2, 2012 at 8 p.m., Free event, no tickets required. Gates open at 3 p.m., Open Rehearsal at 3:30 p.m. (No open rehearsal if concert is moved) In case of inclement weather, the concert will be moved to the Eisenhower Theater, and the doors will open at 7:30 p.m., one half-hour before the performance. Please call the NSO Summer Concert Hotline at (202) 416-8114 after 1 p.m. on Sunday to find out if the performance has been moved.

Shaken and broken but not down
Last year's 5.8 earthquake centered in rural Virginia did considerable damage to the National Cathedral. It is going to take $20 million and five years to fix it. This Thursday, August 23, 2012, is the Restore the Glory! anniversary campaign. It is one day to rally all those who love the Cathedral with a $100,000 goal. Cirque flies high
Cirque du Soleil is defying gravity once again on The Plateau at National Harbor with Totem "A fascinating journey into the evolution of mankind." It is somewhat a departure from what Cirque du Soleil normally does retains its breath taking high flying acrobatics. Totem runs thru October 7th.
