PORT TOBACCO, Md. - A cyclist was struck by a hit-and-run driver sometime Thursday night or early Friday morning, according to the Charles County Sheriff's Office.
The office says Mark Roepcke, 47 of Port Tobacco, was found unconscious on the side of Chapel Point Road near Taurus Lane around 3 a.m. Friday. He was transported to a hospital in critical condition.
The sheriff's office says the accident happened between 10 p.m. Thursday night and 3 a.m. Friday morning. A witness saw Roepcke headed south on the road around 10 p.m. Friday night, and evidence shows he was hit by a silver-colored car that was driving north.
Investigators say the car should have damage of the driver's side, including the side view mirror, the headlight assembly and the windshield.
