LA PLATA, Md. - Officials say a house fire has killed a 5-year-old boy and seriously injured his 2-year-old sister in Charles County.
County public information officer Crystal Hunt says the blaze started just after 6 a.m. Thursday in the 6800 block of Arbor Lane in the Bryans Road area. She says the 2-year-old was taken to a hospital with life-threatening injuries.
Fire officials said in a statement that a mother and her six children, ages 1 to 11, lived in the one-story home.
The cause of the fire was not immediately known.
