Red cross creates apps to find shelters from Irene

Saturday - 8/27/2011, 8:07pm  ET

WASHINGTON - Even before the storm made landfall -- the American Red Cross has been part of the recovery effort.

Starting Friday, the Red Cross set up dozens of shelters in the regions in Irene's path.

The red cross has created a map where you can find a shelter near you. Find that map here.

The charity has also created a free iPhone app to find shelters near you. Search "red Cross" in the iTunes App Store or click here to download it.

You can also text "Shelter" and your zip code to 43362 and FEMA will send you information on the closest shelter in your area.
