Listen: Just who is the queen of pop?
WASHINGTON -- Lady Gaga. Katy Perry. Britney. Rihanna. Beyonce. Ke$ha.
When it comes to pop music dominance, maybe Beyonce is right -- girls DO run the world.
But which girl rules the roost?
Rolling Stone magazine crunched the numbers for 16 artists and came up with its first-ever Queen of Pop index.
Country-pop sensation Taylor Swift leads the pack in album sales (9.8 million since 2009), awards (four Grammys, dominant at the American and Billboard Music Awards) and critical acclaim.
Lady Gaga has her paws up, however, in terms of digital downloads (33.1 million), radio play, Billboard Hot 100 positioning and social networking (39 million Facebook "likes," 11.1 million Twitter followers).
The only categories in which Lady Gaga or Taylor Swift don't come out on top, in fact, are YouTube views (Rihanna's 1st there) and touring grosses (Gaga's a close 2nd to P!nk).
Put all the numbers together and, according to Rolling Stone, the reigning Queen of Pop at the moment is Lady Gaga.
Now, of course, there can never be an undisputed champion in this competition.
Rolling Stone limited itself to artists who've been popular since 2009, but why stop there?
Have Madonna, Cher, Aretha or Miss Ross ever really ceded the throne?
Or is there a powerhouse singer that Rolling Stone didn't fully consider in its rankings?
