VERONA, Va. -- The U.S. Department of Justice plans to visit polling places in Augusta County in July.
Media outlets report that the department initially planned to visit the county's 26 precincts Monday and Tuesday. But The Augusta County Electoral Board asked the department to delay the visits until after Tuesday's Democratic Party primary.
The visits are now expected to occur July 1 and July 2.
The electoral board says the reason for the visits isn't clear.
Steve Morris of Churchville has said he filed a complaint with Justice over handicap access at a precinct located at the Churchville Fire Station. Morris also says the precinct is in the wrong location.
Electoral board Chairwoman Ruth Talmage says the handicap access and location are both appropriate.
