Coast Guard says 2 dead after boat runs aground

PORTSMOUTH, Va. (AP) -- The U.S. Coast Guard says two people are dead and a third has been hospitalized after a boat ran aground in the Yeopim (YOH'-pahm) River on the Perquimans-Hertford county line in North Carolina.

A statement from the Coast Guard station in Portsmouth said 911 dispatchers in Washington County, N.C., contacted North Carolina watchstanders around 1:45 p.m. Friday to report a boating accident with three people aboard.

The watchstanders dispatched crews from Coast Guard Station Elizabeth City to assist. The injured boater was transported to Albemarle Hospital in Elizabeth City.

The victims has not been identified.
