WASHINGTON - He has been a mayor and a governor. Now, Tim Kaine is Virginia's newest senator in Congress.
Sen. Tim Kaine (D-Va.) appeared at an event on Friday with Sen. Mark Warner (D- Va.) in Reston. Both men are former governors of the state and are longtime friends.
"Tim and I both went to law school together and we've been friends since before either one of us was married," says Warner.
At the event, where the pair discussed budget and debt negotiations, Warner joked with the new senator.
"I won't, more than once a day, call him ‘Junior Senator,'" says Warner.
Both senators emphasized that their close relationship will be helpful in getting work done on the Hill. According to Warner, a lot of gridlock in the Senate occurs due to lack of communication.
"We'll be able to do a lot more for Virginia because we're close and our staffs are close," says Kaine.
