Guacamole to come off Chipotle’s menu?

WASHINGTON — Chipotle fans may have to take their burritos sans guacamole after the company says climate change could take a toll on the sale of the side item.

In an annual financial report, Chipotle listed weather conditions and climate change as factors that could take guacamole off the menu.

“Increasing weather volatility or other long-term changes in global weather patterns, including any changes associated with global climate change, could have a significant impact on the price or availability of some of our ingredients,” the report says.

If the price of one or more of the ingredients increases, Chipotle says the “may choose to temporarily suspend serving menu items, such as guacamole or one or more of [the] salsas,” according to the report.

Chipotle Spokesman Chris Arnold told the Huffington Post that guacamole-loving customers shouldn’t worry just yet.

“The sky is not falling,” Arnold wrote to the Huffington Post, according to its article. “We are required to disclose issues that could present risks to our business — like supply constraints or higher food costs — and we are very thorough in making those disclosures.”
