Madonna has certainly had her share of
controversies over the years. And she's not
letting her 53 years slow her down. She recently shocked concert-goers in Turkey
when she flashed them her right nipple. (Ed.

1984 - MTV Video Music Awards performance of "Like
a Virgin" (already shocking in its frank
discussion on premarital sex) shocked many viewers
when she began writhing in passion on the stage in
a wedding dress
1986 - "Papa Don't Preach" - Madonna angered
Planned Parenthood when she released this video.
They believed it encouraged an anti-abortion
stance. On the other hand, Catholic groups were
upset with the lyrics that said she was "keeping
my baby"
1989 - "Like a Prayer" - The video for this hit
song angered Catholic groups again for depicting a
scantily-clad Madonna dancing around burning
crosses and getting up close and personal with
saints. To top it all off, she had the scars of
stigmata on her hand
1990 - "Justify My Love" - The raunchy video for
Madonna's latest song raised more than a few
eyebrows and even lead MTV to ban the video. It
seems an S&M-themed bisexual orgy was too much for
them, as well
1991 - Madonna took advantage of the media scrum
at the Cannes red carpet. She hid her look under a
pink cloak until she stood at the top of the red
carpet stairs. At the top, she revealed a Jean-
Paul Gaultier conical bra and girdle, circa
1960s (AP)
1992 - Madonna times the release of her latest
album Erotica with her new book Sex. The book
features sexually explicit photos of Madonna in a variety of poses with celebrities like Vanilla
Ice, Naomi Campbell and Isabella Rossellini
1994 - Madonna appears on the Late Show with David
Letterman and proceeds to call the host "a sick
f*@k" and also used the word "f*#k" 12 more times
during the interview. It became the most-censored
episode in network talk show history (Ed. Note:

1998 - Madonna angers another ethnic group when
she performs "Ray of Light" during the 1988 MTV
Video Music Awards wearing Hindu facial markings
that symbolize chastity and purity, and shows
dedication to God. One group said it was highly
offensive as she simulated sex acts and wore a
see-though top
2001 - MTV banns the controversial video for
Madonna's "What It Feels Like For a Girl," which
was directed by her then-husband Guy Ritchie. The
video shows Madonna committing violent crimes
before killing herself
2003 - The kiss seen 'round the world. During the
2003 MTV Video Music Awards, Madonna performs
"Like A Virgin" with pop stars Britney Spears and
Christina Aguilera, which ended with a tongue-
filled kiss.
2009 - Madonna and Lady Gaga face off on Saturday
Night Live in a skit called "Deep House Dish." The
two divas eventually face off, which is when the
hair pulling and insults fly
2012 - In her latest controversy, the 53-year-old
singer proved she's still a girl gone wild. During
a concert in Istanbul, Turkey, Madonna exposed her
right nipple to a crowd of more than 55,000
people
