Plane lands safely at BWI Airport after bird strike

WASHINGTON — A plane landed safely at Baltimore-Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport around 9 p.m. Friday evening after a bird strike, Baltimore’s WBAL 11 reports.

It has been reported that several people called 911 about a plane in distress around Gibson Island, according to the Anne Arundel County Fire Department, which sent units to BWI as requested.

The pilot of Southwest Airlines Flight 3118 from San Antonio declared an emergency and was met by emergency vehicles as a precaution upon landing without incident before the plane was then taken out of service for inspections.
