Mont. Co. house heavily damaged in fire

WASHINGTON — Two people are in the hospital tonight after a house fire nearly destroyed a home near Gaithersburg on Thursday night.

Pete Piringer, of Montgomery County Fire and Rescue, says that a husband and wife were taken to the hospital after the fire on Warfield Road. The man is a disabled veteran, Piringer says, and his wife struggled to get him out of the house, so neighbors came over and helped him out — along with the couple’s pets.

The woman was taken to the hospital with symptoms of smoke inhalation; the man was also taken for observation.

Fire officials say the house has suffered hundreds of thousands — if not millions — of dollars in damage, and may be a total loss.
