Ex-teacher charged with trying to pay for teen sex

TOWSON, Md. (AP) — A former teacher has been charged with trying to pay an intermediary for sex with teenage boys.

Baltimore County police say they don’t have any evidence that 58-year-old Charles Beaver has physically abused any children. Beaver is a retired Carroll County public school teacher who works as a children’s aquatics instructor at the Jewish Community Center of Greater Baltimore.

Police say they became aware on Tuesday that Beaver wanted to purchase boys aged 16 and 15 for sex. A detective posed as a pimp and as a teenage boy and communicated with Beaver online.

Police say Beaver was told he could meet the boys at a Baltimore County hotel. When he arrived, he was arrested.

He’s being held on $100,000 bail. No attorney was listed for him in court records.
