D.C. ranks in top 10 for urban places for nature lovers

WASHINGTON – D.C. is not a bad place to live for city dwellers who on occasion yearn for the outdoors.

The Mother Nature Network reports a recent study analyzed America’s 53 largest metropolitan areas in search of the best urban places for nature lovers, and D.C. ranked in the top 10.

What’s more, Baltimore made the cut, too.

The District came in third place after Albuquerque, N.M. and San Francisco, first and second place respectively. Baltimore ranked eighth.

“Although the National Mall and President’s Park are two of the most well-known green spaces in the nation’s capital, D.C. has many other places where you can get back to nature,” Mother Nature reports. “Check out Kenilworth Park and Aquatic Gardens.”

TravelNerd, a personal finance website, conducted the analysis with criteria including acres of park land, number of national parks within 100 miles, average annual precipitation and air quality.
