BALTIMORE - A man has pleaded guilty to first-degree murder in a shooting at a Baltimore carryout restaurant.
Eighteen-year-old Markell Jones entered the plea Monday, when jury selection was to begin in his trial. Prosecutors say he faces 50 years in prison at sentencing July 2.
Authorities say on Oct. 31, 2011, Freddie Jones Jr. was ordering food at a Greenmount Avenue carryout when someone tried to reach into his pants pocket. Freddie Jones resisted, but he was fatally shot by Markell Jones. The Joneses are not related.
The crime was recorded on the store's surveillance, which local media broadcast. One of Markell Jones' relatives saw the video and contacted police.
