WASHINGTON – Almost half of the charges filed against four people connected with the St. Patrick’s Day beating of a man, left stripped naked and unconscious on a Baltimore street, have been dropped, The Baltimore Sun reports.
A total of 24 charges were filed against Aaron Jacob Parsons, 20, Shayona Mikia Davis, 20, Shatia Baldwin, 21, and Deangelo Carter, 19, including first-degree assault for attacking an Alexandria, Va. man in March. Prosecutors have dropped 13 of those charges.
The Baltimore State’s Attorney’s Office has not yet commented on dropping the charges.
Baltimore police cite “community intelligence” for the information that lead to the arrest of the four suspects. Multiple videos posted online show the attack in graphic detail, and tips came from as far away as California identifying those portrayed in it.
In the video, a crowd laughs as the victim is punched in the face. The crowd then strips him naked and takes his phone, keys and wallet.
“It really was an incident that outraged Baltimore,” said Baltimore police spokesman Anthony Guglielmi shortly after the incident.
The victim told police he woke up in his hotel room the day after the attack with a black eye. He was missing his watch, phone and car keys.
Police are not investigating the beating of the man, who is white, as a hate crime. All of the suspects who attacked the man are black.
