Ex-UTEP coach Rabedeaux dies in Vietnam

EL PASO, Texas (AP) — The man who succeeded legendary coach Don Haskins at UTEP has died.

UTEP spokesman Jeff Darby said that Jason Rabedeaux died Monday in Vietnam. He was 49.

Rabedeaux became the Miners’ coach in 1999 and led the team for three seasons before resigning for personal reasons. He left UTEP with a 46-46 record.

He later served on the basketball staff at Marquette before heading overseas. He was coaching the Saigon Heat at the time of his death.

He previously was an assistant coach at Washington State and Oklahoma.
